Miami to Chicago Roadtrip
May 13, 2007
Page One

I began this trip by driving one night before from Miami to St. Augustine. After staying in St. Augustine for a day, I left to start heading back home to Chicago. I was following Sam because he also happened to be on his way to DeKalb, Illinois to visit some friends. I later was very grateful to have his company on this trip. Not that I'm not always grateful for his company.

Because of the fires in Southern Georgia and Northern Florida we had to head towards Gainseville and then to the Florida panhandle.

A FL 19 shield.

Some construction going on here.

And a FL 20 shield. As well as Sam's mustang that shows up in many pictures.

Some pretty trees along this road.

To the US 301 Business District.

Now a four lane road with a larger median.

A fuzzy picture of a bunch of FL road shields.

And here we're coming up to the University of Florida. US 441 crosses here.

There's the entrance.

Coming up to I 75 now.

Of course we are going to choose to go north on I-75.

Pretty much what the interstate looks like the entire time we're on it.

US 41 goes from Michigan to Miami. Taking US 41 from Miami to Naples is very pretty and I've already done it a few times.

An interstate 75 shield.

Now we're coming up to the junction with I-10.

Almost didn't get this one! You can take interstate 10 east towards Jacksonville or West toward Tallahassee.

An I-10 sheild.

Here is where we start running into the smoke from the fires.

It starts getting thicker.

The yellow signs ahead say "Fog Ahead".

I guess Sam had a tough time with this in his car.

It is kind of difficult to see too far ahead.

Only 14 more miles to Tallahassee, which is about where this smoke finally let up.

US 90 junction.

Exit at US 27 to get to the state capitol.

Some construction in the area as well.

A view of the interstate.

The junction for US 231 that runs to Indiana and Panama City, FL.

A US 231 shield.

The junction of US 231 with US 90. Parts of US 90 were destroyed because of Hurricane Katrina in Mississippi and Louisiana.

What US 231 looks like.

We've made it to Alabama! Welcome!

Another Welcome to Alabama sign.

A plethora of shields here.

An overhead sign for US 231, US 84, and US 431.
