Iowa to New Salem, Illinois
December 2005

Here we've arrived at my brother's predetermined destination of Cuba. From there we make our way to Havana and finally New Salem, one of Abraham Lincoln's old homes where he worked for a while before moving on to do other things like becoming president of the United States.

My brother snapped a wonderful "Welcome to Cuba" photo.

And now we're leaving. It wasn't a very big town, but we had made it to our destination!

IL 97 and IL 100 shields here.

IL 100 left us and US 24 joined us. US 24 and IL 97 shields.

All the roads going every which way! We keep faithful with IL 97.

A view of IL 97.

Another view.

Joining up with US 136.

And here we're coming up to the bridge that goes over the Illinois River.

About to cross the Illinois River.

We've already been to Cuba today, might as well also go to Havana!

On US 136 and IL 97 coming up to New Salem.

US 136 splits off and we follow IL-97.

Another shield and low gas prices.

Here's a view looking into the village that Abraham Lincoln lived and worked in.

And here is Abraham Lincoln. Well, a statue of him anyway.

Back on the road.

Getting onto Interstate 72.

And the ramp...

The never-ending ramp...

An I-72 shield.

Now we're heading towards I-55.

If you squint really hard you can see this picture.

I-55 and I-72 shields.
