Pike's Peak
August 2, 2006

At the summit of Pike's Peak, only 60% as much oxygen is available as down at the bottom and so many have trouble breathing. It frequently hails, and on the way up you lose a great deal of water from your body. It is important to drink quite a bit of water as you go. On the way up the mountain you can clearly see the tree line where trees can no longer grow because of the lack of oxygen. The following pictures were taken by my brother on this trip.

A really pretty picture of a hummingbird that was flitting around.

They had markers on the way up so that you knew where you were. I like to say the name Minnehaha.

Getting higher!

Up to 10,000 feet!

Only 2,000 more feet to go! Really, 1,981 more feet.

The side of the train.

The railroad tracks.

The sign at the summit.

It was hailing on us!

Here are the markers for the different trails that I was telling you about.
